The level of environmental contamination and pollution is closely linked to the unprecedented increase in industrial, agricultural, commercial activities and changes in lifestyle.  Everyday tons of wastes are generated as man thrives to satisfy his basic needs and these wastes largely end up in the environment. The environment, both natural and artificial is one of the factors that affect human health and wellbeing. The relationship between environment

and health, the so called environmental health should be understood as a complex of interactions.  There is expert consensus that infectious disease transmission could be influenced by environmental factors including drainage, proximity to wastes, stagnant water, noxious odour and poor air quality. Sanitation and changes to urban landscape can help transform the health of the population.

Environmental sanitation according to WHO is the control of all those factors in man’s physical environment which exercise or may exercise a deleterious effect on his physical development, health and survival, it is basically done to promote hygiene, prevent diseases and other consequences of ill health relating to  Environmental factors.

Climate change awareness refers to the level of understanding and knowledge that individuals, communities, and societies have about the causes, impacts, and solutions of climate change. It involves recognizing the scientific consensus that human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, are contributing to the increase in greenhouse gas emissions and subsequent global warming.

A photo showing NES members with an awareness banner .

Climate change awareness also encompasses understanding the potential consequences of climate change, such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and ecosystem disruptions.

Awareness of climate change is crucial because it drives action and policy changes to mitigate and adapt to its impacts. When people are aware of the risks and understand the urgency of addressing climate change, they are more likely to support and engage in sustainable practices, such as reducing carbon emissions, conserving energy, and adopting renewable energy sources.
