NES Flags off Mentorship Programme

The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) on 24th June 2021 launched her mentorship Programme to provide young professionals with opportunities to learn leadership and career skills. The mentorship programme was launched in River State with the Rivers State chapter of NES as the pilot project. The event was flagged off by the National Vice President (VP1), Prof. John Onwuteka (FNES), on behalf of the National President, Dr. Dorothy Bassey (fnes). Prof. Onwuteka noted that the mentorship programme is one of the numerous programmes designed by the Society to promote professional development and environmental sustainability. He charged the River State chapter to take advantage of the pilot programme and be a leading light to other chapters.

NES Honours Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, FNES

The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) has honoured the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and fellow of the society, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, FNES, with the Global Leadership Award. In his reaction, the former president expressed joy to have reconnected with the society for which he has been a member for many years. He thanked NES for the honour of the Global Leadership Award and commended the society, led by the National President, Dr. Dorothy Bassey (FNES), for its patriotism and commitment to the cause of protecting and showing love to the environment.

NES inaugurates new chapter

The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) has inaugurated a new chapter of the society in Awka, Anambra state, Nigeria. The event which marked another milestone in the history of the society also witnessed the swearing-in of the first executives of the new chapter which has Dr. Odili Ojukwu as the chapter chairman.
The inauguration ceremony which was performed by the National President of the Society, Dr. Dorothy Bassey (FNES), had other national officers in attendance, including the 1st National President, Prof. John Onwuteaka (FNES), National Secretary Dr. John Akpan Harry (MNES), and Councilor, Dr. Leonard Mgbeahuruike (MNES). Other personalities in attendance were the chapter chairmen of Enugu and Imo states, Dr. Ebere Udeh (MNES) and Dr. Dike Martins (MNES).

World Recycling Day: Environmentalists condemn practices that worsen climate change

Some environmentalists on Thursday warned Nigerians to do away with culture that seems to worsen climate change.

The environment experts spoke on Thursday in Lagos on the side line of the event to mark the 2021 Global Recycling Day in Lagos State.

The event was organised by the Nigeria Environmental Society (NES).

The experts noted that improper waste disposal, deforestation and gas emission; caused extreme climate change that exposed life to the vagaries of nature.

Flood: Environmentalist cautions Lagos residents against reckless dumping of waste

An environmentalist, and National President, Nigeria Environmental Society (NES) Dr Dorathy Bassey, on Wednesday cautioned Lagos residents against reckless dumping of waste on the streets, as it could increase flooding.

Bassey spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos ahead of the Global Recycling Day to arouse public consciousness on waste recycling and management to improve human habitat.
